Pitts Towing and Service Center has been a mainstay in the Waynesville and Haywood / Jackson County area since 1982. Owner / Manager Chris Hartley purchased the business recently (winter, 2008) and says he prides himself on his personal courtesy to the senior citizen population. His driver, Isaac Dumas, shuttles clients to and from his garage. His Center is also the only area service station with fresh ground Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee.
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. While I was there, having my own Subaru serviced, I talked with regular customer Bill Seibert, who has been a model train enthusiast since he was eight. Bill is now 84. I had actually been to three other mechanics who had made good enough guesses as to what was affecting the misfiring of my vehicle, but David Hartley was the one who pinpointed the problem by doing research on line and finding my problem in an on-line tech manual published by Subaru. My ignition coil module had worn out. David ordered the part and on my next visit I was back on the road in about a half hour.
Pitts is family run. Chris’ son, Michael, is the managing driver of the wrecker and towing vehicles. Pitts has three other drivers and they are available every day and all hours. David Hartley oversees all aspects of the garage side of the business, and I found him knowledgeable, outgoing and helpful. Pitts is also a complete auto repair center. While I was waiting, a man drove in just to have his hanging mud flap fixed. No job too small.
Pitts is a certified North Carolina Safety and Emissions Inspection Station, also being one of the two Triple A Approved Stations west of Asheville.
