About Us:
Gene Ferguson is and has been a successful businessman for over 35 years in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. He started by selling antiques and furniture out of his basement, which has evolved into one of the area’s largest new and used furniture storefronts. Since 1983, the current storefront, nearly the size of a football field, has been operating and is filled with a wide variety of antiques, collectibles, new and used furniture and new bedding. It houses many “hard to find” and unusual items.
Gene’s education and experience as an auctioneer and appraiser are without blemish. He is a graduate of one of the most prestigious auction schools in the US, Mendenhall School of Auctioneering. He also attended Haywood Tech. and Western Carolina University. Being an active member of the NCAA (North Carolina Auctioneers Association), as well as attending seminars and continuing education courses, keeps Gene current with new trends in the auctioneering industry. Thirteen years experience of auctioneering personal property, real estate, businesses and many charity auctions for schools, chambers of commerce and civic associations has given Gene the title “colonel” of the auction, with a track record to prove it. He has been doing appraisals for over 20 years for estates, banks, individuals, government agencies and real estate agents and brokers.
Since 1972, he has been a NC real estate broker, and has sold businesses, homes and real estate by traditional means and by auctioneering. Developing subdivisions, building new homes and commercial buildings and residential renovations have given him firsthand knowledge of the real estate industry. He is very competent with the rules, regulations and customs of these different real estate ventures. He also has his own used auto sales lot for over 15 years, and has auctioned: autos, trucks, antique autos and farm equipment.
Gene conducts auctions in his Auction House, on-site in homes, businesses and at parcels of real estate. The Auction House is in a super location, with terrific hours for auction clientele as well as customers. It is a modern, warm facility with clean rest rooms, chairs and fully equipped with a stage. Auctions are advertised in local papers, the internet, flyers, past and current auction attendees and a vast network of business contacts. There are both portable and in-house sound systems. We also have a variety of well stocked and maintained signs for our auction services. Seven medium to large enclosed box trucks enable us to load and move merchandise. We also have the man power to take care of large auctions through our moving company, Gene Ferguson Moving Incorporated. We will gladly help load your merchandise after the sale. For the last fifteen years, we have been moving homes, offices and businesses both locally and for long distances. We offer licensed moving services and are a member of the NC Mover Association. We have 30 years experience moving antiques and new and used furniture.
