The Cherokee Trader opened its doors to vacationers visiting the Cherokee Indian Reservation in 1964. Since that time The Cherokee Trader has offered a diverse selection of quality merchandise - from the finest locally crafted jewelry and art, to a wide range of clothing from T-shirts to outerwear.
The handmade American jewelry displayed at The Cherokee Trader encompasses many different styles handcrafted by American Indian tribes across the United States. In addition to fine Cherokee jewelry, at The Cherokee Trader you may find a bracelet that was crafted by a craftsperson of the Zuni Tribe or necklaces that were handcrafted in the West by the Navajos.
The Cherokee are known for their intricate beadwork that they incorporate into their own style of jewelry: Earrings, necklaces, hair barrettes and beautiful bracelets. Many of the Cherokee’s crafts such as tomahawks, peace pipes and spears are decorated with this detailed form of artwork.
The Cherokee Trader carries one of the most extensive and impressive collections of hand carved Indian masks available. Masks have always played a large part in the Cherokee culture and have helped the Cherokee illustrate and dramatize their story telling. This art of mask carving has been handed down through the generations. Most of the masks in The Cherokee Trader are made of wood; however, gourds, clay and natural materials are sometimes also used.
In addition to these specialty items The Cherokee Trader also carries these items:
